KUALA LUMPUR – Men’s doubles pair Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik are letting their on-court performance do the talking as they gear up for the most significant tournament of the year thus far.
After being ousted from the Malaysia Open by BWF World Tour Final winners Kang Min-hyuk and Seo Seung-jae from South Korea, the national number one pair faced criticism for falling short of the semi-finals on home turf.
Despite the setback, Aaron remains undeterred and optimistic about their performance in upcoming tournaments.
“Results on court will speak for themselves, we just have to keep going.
“Like I said last week, it was just the first tournament of the year, so there is more coming. The most important (tournament) is the one in Paris (Olympics),” Aaron told BWF after the first-round match at the India Open last night.
The former world champion expressed confidence in their abilities and highlighted the importance of focusing on their long-term goals, particularly the upcoming Olympics.
Their determination was evident in a hard-fought three-set win against Akira Koga and Taichi Saito of Japan, setting the stage for their continued campaign.
Reflecting on their recent victory, Aaron described it as a good warm-up for the challenges ahead.
The world number four pair is set to face the world number 31 pair, Kenya Mitsuhashi and Hiroki Okamura, in the second round of the India Open today.
“(Yesterday) was a good start and warm-up for us as (today) we will play against a young Japanese pair (Mitsuhashi-Okamura).
“We have to be prepared for that match; the Japanese pairs have a similar playstyle when they play us. That is why we need to prepare more against them,” added Aaron. – January 18, 2024
