KUALA LUMPUR – The National Sports Council (NSC) has appointed Jefri Ngadirin and Arrifin Mohd Ghani as their new deputy director-generals, effective today.

Jefri, 51, steps into the role of deputy director general (sports development), while Arrifin, 55, assumes the position of deputy director general (commercialisation and marketing).

Speaking to Scoop, Jefri acknowledged the immense importance of Malaysian sports and the NSC as they gear up for the Paris Olympic Games in July, and the Paralympic Games in August.

“Our focus is clear – our national athletes will strive to qualify and compete, aiming for that historic first-ever gold medal for able athletes.

“For our para-athletes, the goal is to build on their past successes and secure more gold medals in Paris.

“With collaborative efforts from all stakeholders, we aspire to achieve this milestone. I am fully committed to supporting our director general to ensure a triumphant outing for our Malaysian athletes in both games,” he said when contacted.

Jefri brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having joined the NSC development division in 1993.

After pursuing his degree in Business Administration at the University of Miami from 1996 to 1999, he returned to the NSC, holding various key positions, including director of the Athletes Division since 2015.

On the other hand, Arrifin, armed with a Bachelor of Laws from Universiti Teknologi Mara, has had a diverse career at NSC since 1995.

His journey includes roles such as head of the International Relations Unit, director of the Elite Branch, and director of the Sports Management Division.

He was also seconded to the Melaka State Sports Council and the Sports Commissioner’s Office before returning to NSC as the acting deputy director general in Sports Development. – January 8, 2024
