KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia Swimming (MS) is looking for candidates to fill the positions of technical director, head coach and coach for its podium programme.
MS assistant secretary Nurul Huda Abdullah said the national body has already received many applications from the United States (US), Australia, and Europe to fill the respective positions.
She revealed that MS has already shortlisted the candidates and will be working with the National Sports Council (NSC) to select the right fit for the currently open posts.
“We have shortlisted a number of coaches and we know who we will propose to the NSC.
“We were very fortunate to receive quite a number of applications from overseas.
“We are hoping to get the best coach within our budget. At this point, it boils down to the budget,” said Nurul Huda when met at the NSC, after a Sports Working Committee Meeting, here today.
Nurul Huda said that it is going to be expensive to attract foreign coaches. However, she said that this is something that MS is willing to compromise on.
“Our salary scheme for foreign coaches is quite low. Like I said it depends on the budget but, if we cannot get foreigners for all three positions, we will be happy with one foreigner and two local coaches.
“However, we do have the option to hire local coaches as we want to promote our local coaches and develop them.
“But it depends whether they (local coaches) are open to the salary packages offered by the NSC,” she added.
“We all know that swimming has to improve, and we have identified certain key areas to improve.
“One of them is in the coaching structure that we plan to have,” she added. – November 6, 2023
