KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia Hockey Confederation (MHC) vice president Datuk Seri Anil Jeet Singh has confirmed that he will not be contesting for another term in his current position.
Instead, he expressed his intention to fully focus on his responsibilities as the president of the Sabah state hockey association.
“I am truly honoured to be re-elected as the vice president of MHC. I extend my gratitude to all the delegates who voted for me, and a special thanks to the president for trusting me and providing the opportunity to serve as the tournament chairman for the Junior Hockey World Cup.
“This will be my final term at MHC, and for the duration of my tenure, I am committed to giving my utmost effort to fulfill my duties diligently.
“Additionally, I aim to concentrate more on developmental initiatives for the Sabah Hockey Association. I hope that once my term ends, I can devote myself entirely to delivering my best service for the state,” Anil said during a press conference at the National Hockey Stadium today.
In the recently concluded MHC presidency election for the 2023-2027 term, the five-seat competition for the vice president (men) post featured a six-cornered fight.
S. Ganesan and Shurizan Mansor emerged as the winners with 26 votes each, followed by Datuk Mohd Saiyuti Abd Samat (25), Hasnizam Hassan (23), and Anil (15).
Anil’s first stint at MHC came in 2019 when he secured victory in that year’s presidential election with 22 votes to become the vice president.
In May this year, Anil was re-elected as the president of the Sabah Hockey Association for a second term, retaining the seat unopposed with full support from its seven affiliates.
Meanwhile, MHC president, Datuk Seri Subahan Kamal, successfully retained his presidency for the third consecutive term uncontested.
Subahan’s first foray into the MHC was in 2015 when the former president, the then Tengku Mahkota of Pahang Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah, handed him the baton after he was unanimously elected as the president of the Asian Hockey Federation following the demise of Sultan Azlan Shah in May 2014.
Under Subahan’s leadership, Malaysia won the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup last year and finished third in the 2019 edition.
The Speedy Tigers also finished as runners-up in the Asian Champions Trophy in August.
The Speedy Tigers are currently ranked 12th in the world rankings with 1881.87 points.
