Hannah suggests ‘Rahmah’ tickets for World Cup qualifier against Kyrgyzstan

Sports minister responds to fans’ laments over pricey tickets for Thursday’s match

SUBANG JAYA – Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh has heard the cries of the people over ticket prices for Malaysia’s upcoming Fifa World Cup qualifier against Kyrgyzstan.

The match, scheduled for Thursday at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil, prompted Hannah to engage with the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) to explore solutions.

The ticket prices, as listed on tickethotline.com.my, currently stand at RM44.29 for adults and RM8.60 for children in the open section for home and away fans.

Grandstand and premium tickets are listed as costing RM64.89 and RM85.49 respectively, inclusive of processing charges and related fees.

“I have seen comments online asking for ‘Tiket Rahmah’ so that many more can afford to buy tickets and go to the match.

“I have forwarded the suggestion to (FAM president) Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin and I am waiting for FAM’s reply,” she said after the opening ceremony of the Asean Women In Sports Conference here today.

The initiative echoes the Tiket Rahmah programme implemented during the MotoGP Malaysian GP at the Sepang International Circuit, allowing fans to access K2 hillstand tickets for RM49.99.

As of this morning, only 5,944 tickets have been sold for the 85,000-capacity National Stadium, prompting further consideration for accessible pricing.

The World Cup qualifier will be broadcast live on a paid satellite TV provider.

To ensure wider accessibility, Hannah’s ministry plans to establish screening areas across the country for those without tickets.

She added that details about the locations of these screenings will be announced at a later date. – November 14, 2023
