KUALA LUMPUR – Independent men’s singles player Lee Zii Jia’s hot streak ended at the Denmark Open today after losing in the final, securing him second place.

Last week Zii Jia defeated compatriot Ng Tze Yong in straight sets to win the Arctic Open for his first World Tour title in 17 months.

It was the sixth title of his career.

But Zii Jia could not keep up the momentum after losing to China’s world number 22 Weng Hongyang at the Jyske Bank Arena in Odense.

The Kedah-born shuttler was outclassed by Hongyang’s gameplay and went down in straight sets, 21-12, 21-6, in 33 minutes.

This defeat sees Zii Jia repeat his runner-up effort from last year’s Denmark Open.

Zii Jia’s next assignment is the French Open on Tuesday, where he will have an opportunity for revenge.

He has been drawn with the same opponent in the first round. – October 22, 2023
