KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia dominated the Satellite Squash Championships today by winning both the men’s and women’s categories.
The women’s category witnessed an all-Malaysian final, which took place at The Malacca Club Rotunda.
Whitney Isabelle took down compatriot and tournament 3/4 seed Jessica Keng 11-4, 11-8, 7-11, 12-10.
The win saw Whitney, who won silver in the team event at the World Junior Squash Championships in Melbourne last July, open her account on the PSA Tour since turning pro in February.
“I am extremely delighted as this is my first PSA Satellite title. The final match was quite exciting.
“I didn’t have any high expectations for myself as I entered the court as an unseeded player, so I just focused on my gameplay.
“This victory means a lot to me as my performance has not been very impressive in recent weeks. I’m happy to regain my momentum,” said Whitney.
Her next assignment is the Malaysia Cup Satellite Championship, scheduled to take place in Seremban on November 8.
In the men’s final, Duncan Lee took on the tournament’s second seed Na Joo-young from South Korea, who had shocked tournament favourite Wee Ming Hock from Malaysia in the semi-finals, defeating him 12-10, 7-11, 11-8, 11-4.
Duncan ensured he avenged his comrade by taking out the South Korean in straight sets, 12-10, 11-2, 12-10. – October 22, 2023
