KUALA TERENGGANU — Terengganu Polygon Cycling Team (TSG) has cemented its place as one of the best continental cycling teams in recent times after claiming its third consecutive Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) Asian Championship with its 2023 season victory.

TSG chief operating officer Nasiruddin Wan Idrus shared that the latest season win is actually the team’s fifth, having won the title first in 2012 and then later in 2019, before its most recent three-year winning streak.

“Alhamdulillah we managed to finish this season so well by defending our Asian title and becoming the best continental team and rising to 30th from 31st place last year.

“It’s all the result of hard work from everyone, the cyclists, coaches, management and sponsors who always provide support in various forms,” he said today, adding that the achievement would motivate and inspire Kuala Terengganu-based TSG to plan to do better next season.

“We plan to defend our Asian and continental titles as well as improve our world ranking next year. Even though it’s hard, InsyaAllah, we can do it with good effort and planning.”

Nasiruddin also said that their Mongolian cyclist, Jambaljamts Sainbayar managed to emerge as the second best Asian cyclist this season.

The TSG team for 2023 comprise nine locals — Mohd Harrif Saleh, Mohd Shahrul Mat Aminn, Nur Amirull Fakhruddin Mazuki, Irwandie Lakasek,  Mohamad Nur Aiman Mohd Zariff, Wan Abdul Rahman Hamdan, Zuladri Amin Zulkurnain, Kee Zhe Yie, and Muhammad Shahmir Aiman Abd Halim.

The team also has six foreign cyclists — Youcef Reguigui, Metkel Eyob, Jeroen Meijers, Sainbayar, Anatolii Budiak and Jesse Ewart. — October 21, 2023
