KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysian esports enthusiasts are in for a visual treat as they will have the opportunity to witness elite world-class gamers competing in the upcoming JEMPUTAN: Tekken 7 Championship.

The championship, set to be a battleground for 256 players from around the world, is scheduled to take place from October 28 to 29 at the gateway@klia2 mall.

In a statement, the organisers of the championship, Reacch Productions, said that the JEMPUTAN: Tekken 7 Championship would serve as a perfect platform for transforming Malaysia into a tourism hotspot for international gamers.

“This championship has the potential to bridge the gap between virtual and real-world experiences, creating a vibrant subculture within the broader world of tourism and entertainment.

“The championship will also contribute to increased tourism revenue, stimulate local economies, and provide global exposure for Malaysia,” the statement read.

The tournament format will be based on double elimination with the default setting using the Tekken game mode.

All rules outlined in the official Tekken World Tour ruleset will also be in effect.

Several world-class players have confirmed their participation to compete against local players in the championship, including Pakistan’s four-time world champion, Arslan “Ash” Siddique, and South Korea’s Sun-woong “LowHigh” Yoon, who was crowned the 2018 Evo Champion.

Arslan has recently gained global recognition and is currently representing Twisted Minds and Red Bull Esports.

Last week, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced an RM30 million allocation during the tabling of Budget 2024 to encourage international gaming studios and companies to invest in the development of digital products alongside local talent.

The prime minister also emphasised the aim of promoting Malaysia as a development hub for the esports industry.

Tekken 7 was initially launched for arcades in 2015 and subsequently made available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC via Steam in 2017.

The event is co-organised with Esports Putrajaya, REF Venture, and supported by Rakan Muda and the Youth and Sports Ministry.
