KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia’s sepak takraw team failed to defend their gold medal in the men’s regu after falling to Thailand at JSC Gymnasium today.

Thailand’s squad of Pattarapong Yupadee, Pichet Pansanm, Sittipong Khamchan, Siriwat Sakha, and Varayut Jantarasena won gold in straight sets 21-15, 21-19.

There was some controversy with the final point in the second set when Pichet’s spike looked to be out but was called in. The Malaysians wanted to protest but had used up all of the challenges.

Malaysia were the defending gold champions in Jakarta-Palembang 2018, where they defeated Indonesia in the final.

Malaysia ended their campaign with two silver medals in sepak takraw. – October 7, 2023
