Referee assault: Selangor FC to conduct internal review

The club expresses dissatisfaction with refereeing standards and seeks clarification from FAM

KUALA LUMPUR — Selangor FC will conduct an internal review following the recent incident involving their club center-back, Yazan Al-Arab, who assaulted referee Hasrol Amir after the Malaysia Cup quarter-final second leg against Terengganu recently.

In a statement released today, Selangor FC expressed awareness of the incident and readiness to fully cooperate with the relevant authorities for further investigations into the matter.

The club also expressed dissatisfaction with the standard of refereeing throughout the match.

Without mentioning a specific date, Selangor FC will also submit a formal report to the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) for further clarification.

On Sunday, the Red Giants were eliminated after losing 3-1 on aggregate following a 1-1 draw in the second leg.

Terengganu took the lead through Ivan Mamut’s penalty in the 23rd minute, while Selangor scored the equaliser through Safuwan Bahararuddin’s header in the 69th minute. — September 26, 2023.
