KUALA LUMPUR – All menteri besar and state sports committee executive councillors of opposition-ruled states are invited to enliven the National Sports Day 2023 celebrations at their respective state level.

The Youth and Sports Ministry said the National Sports Day will continue to be held in the opposition-ruled states and the celebrations will be managed by the Implementation Coordination Unit of the Prime Minister’s Department.

“National Sports Day is a national agenda to nurture and popularise sports regardless of political affiliation and is in line with the theme of Malaysia Madani, “Tekad Perpaduan Penuhi Harapan” (Determination in Unity, Fulfilment of Hope),” the ministry said in a statement today.

Yesterday, Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor claimed that the state executive councillors of four states administered by Perikatan Nasional were being barred from taking part or cooperating with federal departments and agencies.

Citing an example, Sanusi claimed that all sports committee chairmen in four states ruled by Perikatan Nasional will no longer chair the respective state-level National Sports Day event, unlike in previous practice.

The National Sports Day will be held from October 13 to 15 at all the district and state-level events, while the national-level event is scheduled to be launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on October 14 at the Palace of Justice grounds in Putrajaya. – September 22, 2023
