KUANTAN — Pahang athletes chosen to represent the state in the 2024 Malaysia Games (Sukma) will receive a higher minimum training allowance from next January.

State Communications and Multimedia, Youth, Sports and Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) Committee chairman Fadzli Mohamad Kamal said this was part of the measures taken by the state government to protect the welfare of its athletes.

“This move is in appreciation of, as well as a catalyst and morale-booster for, all the athletes to continue to be committed to achieving the targets set (for them),” he said at the 2021/2022 Pahang Sports Awards ceremony here today.

Pahang Regent Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah graced the event.

Fadzli said every Pahang athlete chosen for the Sukma in Sarawak will receive training allowances of at least RM250 per month compared to the previous minimum of RM100 per month.

Meanwhile, the training allowance for 2022 Sukma gold medal winners will also be raised to RM500 per month from RM350 per month from next January.

In addition, Fadzli said the Pahang Sports Council has adjusted the salary of coaches, with the minimum wage increased to RM2,000 per month since March.

At the ceremony, Tengku Hassanal also launched the Pahang Sports Fund in a bid to empower the performance and drive the progress of sport in the state, with those contributing to the fund to be given tax exemptions. — September 19, 2023
