KUALA LUMPUR – Logistic issues at the World Championships in Copenhagen, Denmark, continue to haunt badminton players, as Indonesia’s doubles pair Muhammad Rian Ardianto and Fajar Alfian were the latest to vent their frustrations on social media.

“Bus transport is late every day! It has already happened three times. We would be waiting for the bus until our practice time is up,” he said, tagging the Badminton World Federation’s (BWF) official Instagram page.

On Sunday, Scoop reported that Malaysian players Shevon Lai, Lai Pei Jing, and Lee Zii Jia complained on social media about issues they encountered while trying to check into their provided accommodations, as well as delays in transport shuttles to the tournament and practice venues.

There has been no improvement in the transportation issues that have plagued the championships, which is being held in Copenhagen for the fifth time.

It is understood that Copenhagen is experiencing traffic issues due to other big events happening in the capital, including the visit of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

However, BWF secretary-general Thomas Lund told insidethegames that the operations team is working tirelessly to solve the issues.

“There have been a few curveballs that might have influenced the transport issues, and there have been a few things that the host is trying to adjust as quickly as they can because they are important.

“I think the operations team is working tirelessly to solve them, that’s why they are here.

“There have been some teething problems in the beginning,” Lund said. – August 23, 2023
