KUALA LUMPUR – Iconic soul singer Ning Baizura, renowned comedian Joanne Kam, radio personality Shazmin Shamsuddin, and several others are teaming up for a unique live performance that promises a night filled with music, satire, and storytelling next month.

Dubbed “The WOW Show Live”, the performance is slated to take place at the Petaling Jaya Performance Art Centre (PJPAC) in 1 Utama on August 9 and 10.

Promising to whisk Gen X audiences back to the vibrant days of their youth, this event is set to blend nostalgia with modern-day nuances.

The WOW Show live performance will feature a variety of segments, from sofa sessions with mystery guests to discussions on topics of interest to both men and women, guided by a sexologist and psychologist.

The inclusion of stand-up comedians such as Shamaine Othman, Papi Zak, and Kael, supported by multifaceted personalities Sheikh Irfan Mansor and Izzaldin K, adds to the diverse and dynamic nature of the production.

One of The WOW Show hosts, Joanne Kam, emphasised that this show is unlike any other, offering a glimpse into how a live podcast can be both engaging and interactive.

With songstress Ning’s mini-concert, Shamaine’s expertly crafted comedy skits, and Shazmin’s debut on stage, the audience is in for a truly unique experience.

The skits, written by Shamaine and Joanne, aim to address women’s issues in a fun and educational manner, adding a touch of humour to serious topics.

Having worked together for a decade, Joanne and Shamaine bring a wealth of experience and chemistry to the show, making each segment both funny and insightful.

In a meeting with the media, Joanne shared the inspiration behind The WOW Show.

“Along the way, my forte is stand-up comedy. I’ve been in the industry for over 30 years,” she said.

“Many friends and allies have shared touching stories, and often, they’d say, ‘It would be nice to meet you.’

“So, I thought, why not do a live show where the public can fully immerse in the magic?

Joanne also speaks on the show’s significance for women, especially Gen X.

“Women play multifaceted roles – we are mothers, wives, daughters and CEOs.

“So, we’ve decided to collaborate and come together to celebrate the many explosions of life. This show is not just a performance – it’s a platform for us to share our stories, laughter, and experiences.”

Ning also expressed her excitement about the show’s origins.

“I’m so happy to be a part of The WOW Show. It all began with ideas that Shaz and Joanne had while we were doing our nails.

“I suggested an unfiltered table talk because I’m tired of not being able to speak my mind. It has always been controlled.

“I’m grateful that Joanne insisted on waiting for Shaz’s availability. Wow, it’s been a year, and we’re onto season 3.”

While Joanne and Ning are stage veterans, this live show marks Shazmin’s first stage performance.

“I’m a very private person, but as Diana Ross said: I’m coming out,” Shazmin shared.

“We look forward to seeing not just friends but also people who have always been supportive of the arts and radio in Malaysia,”

The WOW Show podcast, which launched last December, is produced by PODaBOOM, the podcast branch of Big Boom Media Sdn Bhd.

The hosts bring a Gen X viewpoint to topics such as careers, relationships, parenting, health, mental wellness, and navigating middle age.

With the use of humour, experience, and irreverence, the hosts go on to tackle taboo subjects and delve into complex discussions.

Catch the ladies in their raw form, revealing a side many Malaysians have never seen.

Tickets are now available at www.onetix.com.my, with a 30% discount on VIP and VVIP tickets as part of a special ladies’ flash discount every Wednesday until the show.

VVIP ticket holders will also have the opportunity to meet the trio after the show. – July 16, 2024
