KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysian indie-folk artist Bayangan is set to captivate audiences with a special showcase for his latest EP “Dari Pinggiran”.
The event, scheduled for 8pm on Friday (May 24) at Nero Event Space, PJ Performing Arts Centre, promises an immersive experience combining music and visual arts.
The showcase will feature dynamic art direction and media installations by Sans Collective, creating a multi-sensory environment that complements Bayangan’s music.
Co-produced with Soundscape Records and supported by Five Arts Centre, the evening aims to be a landmark in the local arts scene.

“I’m happy that the showcase is coming to fruition by friends – in the form of band members, production, and events team,” Bayangan, whose real name is Fikri Fadzil, told Scoop.
“I’m also excited to be presenting Dari Pinggiran in a live full band format, and meeting fans of my music.”
Bayangan also noted that his backing musicians include several familiar faces from the indie music circuit – comprising guitarists Faris Khairi and Azim Idris, Amar Azalan, and Ruviyamin Ruslan.
The sessionists, he said, were hand-picked from a range of critically-acclaimed local musical acts including Lust, Venopian Solitude, Milo Dinosaur and more.
Adding to the excitement, the event will include performances by two noteworthy opening acts.
Upstart Incorporated, a free-jazz trio from Seremban, will return to the stage after a decade-long hiatus.
Francoe, a duo consisting of Francis from The Filters and Coebar, a former member of the post-rock band Glass, will also perform – setting the stage for a night of eclectic and innovative music.
Tickets for the event are priced at RM78 for presale, RM280 for a group package of four tickets, and RM98 at the door, with an additional RM4 processing fee.
Dari Pinggiran, produced under his independent label StudioBayangan and distributed by Bright Lights Production Sdn Bhd, will be available on all major music streaming platforms.
The EP draws inspiration from Bayangan’s participation in Sans Collective’s 2022 media art performance “Dari Pinggiran Vol:1″ held at an abandoned school in Taman Desa, Kuala Lumpur.
The five-track EP incorporates ambient sounds and field recordings from this evocative setting, exploring themes of societal and existential peripheries.
Fans and music enthusiasts can look forward to a night of compelling performances and artistic expression. Tickets are available for purchase online. For more information, visit the event website or contact the organisers directly.
This event is expected to be a significant moment in the local music scene, showcasing Bayangan’s unique artistic vision and the collaborative spirit of the Malaysian arts community. – May 21, 2024
