KUALA LUMPUR – Taylor Swift, who is making history generating earnings that rival the GDP of a small country, could make it into the record books again by winning the best album at the Grammys.
If Swift bags best album for “Midnights”, it would be her fourth win, which would be the most for any artist.
This will also break the tie she is in with Frank Sinatra, Paul Simon and Stevie Wonder.
The main Grammys gala airs on Sunday at 5pm (9am, Monday, Malaysian time) on US network CBS.
The 34-year-old popstar is already making headlines with her global Eras Tour and her whirlwind romance with NFL star Travis Kelce. However, Kelce will not be at the Grammys as his team, the Kansas City Chiefs, is preparing for next weekend’s Super Bowl.
Swift is also nominated for best pop vocal album for “Midnights”; best pop solo performance, song of the year, and record of the year for “Anti-Hero”; and best pop duo/group performance for her remix of “Karma” with Ice Spice.
She is not expected to perform this year.
The Grammys this year is also focused on female performers, as they make up the majority of the nominations for best album and best record.
Genre-bending SZA tops the Grammys nominations with nine nods, followed by Phoebe Bridgers, Serban Ghenea, and Victoria Monet with seven nominations.
Apart from Swift with six nods, seven others also share the same chances – Miley Cyrus, Billie Eilish, Jack Antonoff, Jon Batiste, boygenius, Brandy Clark, and Olivia Rodrigo.
In addition, SZA, Eilish, and Rodrigo are set to perform. Nigerian sensation Burna Boy and rapper Travis Scott will take the stage, along with country singer Luke Combs.
Combs is expected to perform his hit cover of “Fast Car” with singer-songwriter Tracy Chapman, who released the hit in 1988. – February 4, 2024
