KUALA LUMPUR – The mother of T. Nhaveen, a teenager who died from severe injuries after being brutally beaten, has expressed her frustration and despondency over the Penang High Court’s decision to acquit and discharge five individuals accused of murdering her 18-year-old son in June 2017.

In a brief yet heartfelt Facebook post, Shanthi Dorairaj shared her disappointment over the verdict by judge Mohd Radzi Mohd Hamid today.

“At last, God (has) also failed in helping me to get justice for my son,” Shanthi said in the post which also included multiple crying emojis.

In the comment section, netizens rallied to support for Shanti, with some offering words of encouragement while others empathised with her by sharing their own experience of losing a loved one.

In a separate post prior to today’s verdict, Shanthi was hopeful in obtaining justice for her son, adding that she will never forgive those responsible for Nhaveen’s death.

The five individuals charged – S. Gopinaath, 30, J. Ragesuthan, 22, S. Gokulan, 22 and two juveniles – were accused of murdering Nhaveen at a park on Jalan Bunga Raya between 11pm and midnight on June 9, 2017.

Nhaveen suffered burns on his back, injuries indicating sodomy, as well as internal bleeding in his abdomen and head – leading to him being pronounced brain dead before dying on June 15, 2017.

The five accused were also alleged to have committed grievous assault on Nhaveen’s friend, T. Previin, then 19, at a different location on the same night. – October 3, 2023
