Domestic trade minister Salahuddin dies

The 61-year-old was rushed to the hospital after experiencing some discomfort, nausea and vomiting on Friday

KUALA LUMPUR – Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub has passed away at the Sultanah Bahiyah hospital (HSB) in Alor Setar this evening. He was 61.

His daughter Fatihah Salahuddin confirmed her father’s passing via Facebook earlier.

“We are saddened to inform that the head of our family, Salahuddin Ayub died at 9.23pm on July 23, 2023,” she posted.

Salahuddin leaves behind his wife Datin Seri Fatimah Taha and six children.

According to Bernama, Salahuddin’s press secretary, Syakirin Husnal said in a statement that Salahuddin died at the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital (HSB) in Alor Setar, Kedah.

He said Salahuddin’s remains will be taken to his mother’s home in Kg Serkat (Kopi Tenggek), Tg Piai and the minister’s office will provide further information regarding funeral arrangements soon.

He added that the deceased’s family would like to express their utmost appreciation and gratitude to everyone for their prayers and condolences.

“They also wish to thank all the doctors and staff of the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital, Alor Setar, Kedah,” he said.

Yesterday, Syakirin said the minister was taken to the emergency ward of the HSB at about 10.15pm on Friday after suffering from nausea and vomiting before being diagnosed with a brain haemorrhage by a specialist.

On Friday, Salahuddin – who is also the MP for Pulai and Amanah deputy president – was rushed to the hospital after experiencing some discomfort, nausea and vomiting.

Meanwhile, Agriculture and Food Security minister Mohamad Sabu, in Facebook post, said today is the saddest day for members and supporters of Amanah.

He also asked all Amanah supporters to be patient and to pray for the party deputy president.

“The statement from the party’s president will follow soon,” the post read.

At the same time, Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil said that he was saddened to hear the news of the loss of his colleague.

“May Allah SWT forgive all the sins of Allahyarham and place his soul among the pious. I also pray that the family stays strong during this difficult time,”

Fahmi added that Salahuddin had made immense contributions to the country.

“He was the one who created the concept of some of the Rahmah initiatives to help reduce the burden of the people,” Fahmi tweeted

Bernama also reported that Salahuddin’s remains will be sent to Johor Bahru from Alor Setar at 1am on via a Malaysia Airlines flight on Monday. – July 23, 2023
