SHAH ALAM – Caretaker Selangor menteri besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari tonight announced five election pledges from the unity government ahead of the upcoming state polls on August 12.

In a special announcement, Amirudin said the pledges – to be carried out over the span of the next five-year term – include the consolidation of the economy and providing quality education, which are the catalysts for high-income jobs.

This includes providing 100,000 high-income jobs to the youth of Selangor by attracting local and foreign investments, constructing a third port in Pulau Carey, Port Klang, to boost investments, establishing three new townships in Sepang, Sabak Bernam, and along the Klang River.

He said the unity government is looking to enhance 5G connectivity and develop the Kita Selangor Rail Line from Klang to Kuala Selangor, as well as Tanjong Karang, and Sabak Bernam, among others.

Secondly, he said religion will be made the “light and inspiration” for a “dignified” life in Selangor.

Amirudin said under this pledge, there will be an increase from RM2,000 for travel and expenses to
perform Hajj to 3,000 first-time Muassasah Pilgrims, to facilitate their journey to the Holy Kaabah.

He said there will also be an increase in the allowances of Imams, Bilal, Siak, and Nazir in phases.

Amirudin added that there will be increased allocations for Buddhist, Christian, Hindu, Sikh, and Taoist communities to improve the infrastructure in their respective places of worship.

“The five pledges are an offer we are making for the people of Selangor, which is by the unity government and administration of Selangor,” he told reporters prior to making the official announcement in Shah Alam, here, this evening.

“In other words, this is our manifesto and offer for the state of Selangor to allow the unity government to continue the legacy and continuity of this administration that has been operating under the spirit of unity, as can be seen in Putrajaya today.”

Moreover, the unity government is looking to provide more reliable and efficient services for the people.

The fourth offer consisted of sustainable development for a “comfortable” and “hospitable” Selangor.

This includes fully digitising government services to increase efficiency and save time for individuals, companies, and agencies in Selangor and establishing the Greater Klang Valley from Petaling Jaya, Subang Jaya, Shah Alam, and Klang, as a metropolitan model for sustainable and high-tech governance.

Finally, his administration is looking to remain “compassionate” and uphold the interests of the people. – July 31, 2023
