KUALA LUMPUR – Selangor Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali’s foray in the state elections could very well be his last chance to remain relevant in the political arena, said Shahril Sufian Hamdan.
Speaking during his “Keluar Sekejap” podcast which his co-hosts with Khairy Jamaluddin, the former Umno information chief opined that Azmin’s political future remains cloudy due his waning popularity despite being the Selangor Menteri Besar in the past.
“Moreover with the controversies he was involved namely the Sheraton Move. I feel that this is Azmin’s last shot despite losing only once during the last general election.
“I don’t think that his career will last under the political sphere because if he loses again this time, two possibilities will occur.
“Either he (Azmin) will be left out of the national political arena or he will be dropped within the circle of party leaders,” he spoke during the podcast aired yesterday.
During nomination day, yesterday, Azmin is set to contest the Hulu Kelang seat against Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate Juwairiya Zulkifli, who had recently served as political secretary to caretaker Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.
Azmin was the incumbent for the Bukit Antarabangsa seat while Juwairiya was the incumbent for the Bukit Melawati seat, both in Selangor.
Meanwhile, former Umno Youth chief Khairy was more optimistic of Azmin’s chances due to the various probabilities in politics.
“I have learnt many things where even if he (Azmin) loses several times, the political sphere would not declare that a politician’s career is done.
“This is simply because we have a revival of individuals, whose political careers many thought was ‘khalas’ (finished),” he added. – July 30, 2023
