KUALA LUMPUR – Former Selangor Umno chief Tan Sri Noh Omar slammed Umno for compromising its dignity following its alliance with Pakatan Harapan (PH) under the unity government.
Noh, now affiliated with Perikatan Nasional (PN), said that his former party is no longer the “umbrella” for Malays to seek shelter, after its president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi “broke” it by joining forces with the coalition responsible for its downfall.
“If Umno were a ship, it has sunk and is now hitching a ride with PH – the ones that sunk Umno,” he said at PN’s machinery launch at Tanjung Karang yesterday evening.
“In their (DAP) campaigns, they threw brickbats at Umno, which was why we lost. Imagine riding with the people that accused us of being robbers,” he added.
Noh also slammed Umno for “surrendering” the Hulu Bernam state constituency seat to PH when it has been a Barisan Nasional (BN) stronghold for over six terms.
He pointed out that DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke had given statements when the party’s stronghold seat, Dusun Tua, was given to BN without its knowledge.
“We (Umno) have never lost Hulu Bernam. Suddenly, the seat was given to PH. Where is Umno’s dignity?” he questioned.
Noh also claimed that the Selangor Menteri Besar post could have gonr to BN if it had joined forces with PN for the state elections, as 20 seats would have allocated to the coalition.
With BN only contesting 12 seats in Selangor, Noh mocked that the coalition is now “melukut di tepi gantang” (powerless).
Noh was sacked from Umno earlier this year after opining that it had strayed from its original struggle, despite being a member for over 30 years.
Since joining PN, Noh said he would ensure that the PH-BN coalition loses in the state polls.– July 24, 2023
