KUALA LUMPUR – A man has been arrested after failing to appear in court to face charges for uploading false content involving Yang di-Pertuan Agong and the Conference of Rulers, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) said in a statement last night.
The offence was committed via his personal Facebook account.
MCMC, in collaboration with the police, carried out the arrest at 11pm last night in Kuala Lumpur after a warrant was issued by the Sepang sessions court judge.
The individual failed to attend a court hearing scheduled for yesterday.
Currently in police custody, he is expected to be brought before the same court soon.
He faces charges under Section 233(1)(a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 [Act 588], which carries a maximum fine of RM50,000, a one-year prison sentence, or both. – February 25, 2025
