TikTok back on US Apple, Google Play app stores

Trump says will make it “a worthwhile deal” for China to sell TikTok’s US operations to American buyer

KUALA LUMPUR — TikTok is available again on Apple and Google Play app stores in the US as of yesterday in line with the delay on its ban ordered by President Donald Trump.

The delay is until April 5, following Trump’s executive order after taking office last month to halt the ban under a Biden administration law for the Chinese-owned app to divest its US operations.

Trump said previously that he would seek a solution, including US buyers for TikTok.

Earlier this month, he ordered the creation of a US sovereign wealth fund and indicated the possibility that it would be used to buy TikTok from its China’s ByteDance.

Reuters also reported Trump telling reporters yesterday that he had “90 days from about two weeks ago” to find a solution for TikTok’s US’ operations.

He said he hoped to make a deal with TikTok to keep the app operational in the US, including a sale to an American buyer which he believed Chinese President Xi JinPing would agree to.

“I’m going to make it worthwhile for China to do.”

I think it would be to China’s advantage to have the deal be made,” he was quoted as saying.

The popular short video app is used by 170 million Americans and its ban drew complaints by those who use it to earn livelihoods through digital sales. – February 14, 2025
