ALOR SETAR — PAS-led Kedah will observe Thaipusam as a holiday for government offices on Feb 11, a state official announced.
The state government has designated the date as an “occasional holiday” in conjunction with the Hindu festival, Bernama reported, citing an official letter by Kedah deputy state secretary (Management) Datuk Dr Nadzman Mustaffa.
The letter was to inform state and federal heads of departments that the occasional holiday is in line with the provisions under Section 9(1) of the Holidays Act 1951 (Act 369).
Thaipusam has been a public holiday only in Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Johor, Negeri Sembilan, Perak, Penang and Selangor.
On Jan 22, Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor said the holiday was approved to enable devotees to celebrate Thaipusam.
Bernama said approval was given following discussions in the State Executive Council Meeting. – February 4, 2025
