KUALA LUMPUR – Another mutilated cat was discovered this morning at the Universiti Malaya’s (UM) Department of Microbiology and Genetics, reigniting public outrage following similar gruesome incidents reported earlier this week.

The discovery was brought to light by Instagram user @shimaaris, who expressed her frustration and disbelief in a post that has since gone viral.

“Allahuakbar!!! Another dead cat this morning at UM, Department of Microbiology and Genetics discovered this morning!!!! This is clearly NOT caused by dogs!!!” the post read.

The user accused the university of attempting to cover up the incident and called on authorities, including the Royal Malaysia Police and the Veterinary Services Department, to launch a thorough investigation.

Public reaction has been swift and intense, with social media users flooding comment sections with demands for justice and transparency.

User @stray.freefoundation wrote, “This is absolutely unacceptable! Two cats were brutally dismembered and killed, yet @unimalaya has done nothing to find the perpetrator, instead shifting the blame on dogs.”

Another user, @fathv4mp, added, “Hell is the home for people who did this to our fur babies.”

This marks the second such case in recent days. Earlier this week, multiple disfigured cats were found on the university grounds, sparking widespread anger and concern.

In response, the University of Malaya’s student union issued a statement urging anyone with information to come forward while demanding urgent measures to protect stray animals on campus.

However, conflicting reports have emerged, with campus authorities claiming the cats’ injuries were consistent with attacks by stray dogs. They denied allegations of human involvement, stating the injuries align with patterns observed in dog attacks.

The incidents have ignited broader discussions about the safety and treatment of stray animals on university campuses, with many calling for stronger animal welfare policies and accountability. – December 20, 2024
