KUALA LUMPUR – A heartbreaking story about the remains of a baby boy born with severe deformities has gone viral on social media after it was alleged that the body was kept in a freezer for up to two weeks by a private hospital in Klang.
The incident reportedly occurred after the baby’s father was unable to pay for the delivery costs and was consequently not allowed to claim the baby’s body for burial.
This matter was revealed by an Islamic funeral management unit officer who goes by the name
“Mr Wan Chai Official” on Facebook. According to the post, the baby, named Adham, was born with one eye, no nose, and no anus – and was kept at the hospital for 16 days.
“In this case, it is clear that the hospital owner’s decision to withhold baby Adham’s remains from being managed was both inappropriate and cruel.
“As stated, the hospital detained the baby’s mother in the ward until the father paid the bill.
“The question arises, why was baby Adham’s body detained and kept in a morgue freezer for two weeks?” Wan Chai asked.
In the comments section, Wan Chai disclosed that the total hospital bill was RM3,600.
He added that the baby’s father, a factory worker in Shah Alam originally from Negri Sembilan, had only been employed for five days when the baby was born. The mother is from Melaka.
The father, Wan Chai said, was striving to gather the money to pay the bill despite the delay.
On the day of the incident, Wan Chai explained, the father was at work when he was informed by a neighbour that his wife had complained of severe pain and had been rushed to the hospital.
“The wife complained of pain and was taken to the hospital by a neighbour. The husband, who was at work at the time, rushed to the hospital as soon as he was informed about the situation.
“The plan was to send his wife to the Klang Hospital, as the hospital staff suggested, but after an examination, the baby was already on the way,” Wan Chai said.
Wan Chai further explained that within 30 minutes, doctors informed the baby’s mother had complications that required a specialist and high costs.
When preparing the baby’s body for burial, Wan Chai said his team had to use hot water mixed with tap water to soften the body and joints.
In the same post, a video shows the baby’s remains being washed, prayed over, and buried at a cemetery in Selangor.
As of now, no official statement has been released by the hospital regarding the incident. – December 11, 2024.
