KUALA LUMPUR – Barisan Nasional (BN) has not forgotten the struggles of former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, with BN chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi saying it would be impossible to do so given their loyalty to the imprisoned leader.

Speaking at BN’s 50th Golden Jubilee celebration held at Dewan Merdeka, World Trade Centre (WTC), Zahid reiterated the coalition’s desire to see Najib released from prison.

“We haven’t forgotten Bossku (Najib). It’s impossible for us to forget Bossku.

“My colleagues and I on the BN Supreme Council have discussed the issue of Bossku in our meeting agendas.

“Bossku must be released,” he said.

The event was attended by several key BN leaders, including BN deputy chairman Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan and BN secretary-general Datuk Seri Zambry Abdul Kadir.

Also present were MCA chairman Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong, MIC deputy chairman Datuk Seri M. Saravanan, and Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS) chairman Datuk Arthur Joseph Kurup.

Najib, 71, is currently serving a six-year prison sentence after being found guilty of misappropriating RM42 million from SRC International Sdn Bhd.

Initially, the High Court sentenced Najib to 12 years in prison and fined him RM210 million. However, the sentence was reduced to six years’ imprisonment, with the fine lowered to RM50 million, following a royal pardon petition filed on September 2, 2022.

Zahid also expressed hope for a brighter future for Najib and his family.

“We sympathise… it’s hard to look on, but even harder to carry the burden.

“It’s not easy for him (Najib) to face this trial.

“But I am confident that a bright light will come from the end of the tunnel for him and his family,” he said. – December 7, 2024
