KUALA LUMPUR – CIMB Group Holdings Bhd has announced a RM2.5 million commitment to support communities affected by the recent floods in Malaysia.

This contribution, facilitated through CIMB Foundation and CIMB Islamic, will fund on-ground relief efforts and recovery initiatives, working with non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to ensure aid reaches those in need.

Additionally, the bank is also offering a six-month payment relief programme for individuals, small and medium enterprises (SMEs), and micro-SMEs impacted by the floods.

Under the CIMB Flood Relief Assistance Plan, customers can pause their loan and financing repayments with a simplified application process that only requires basic information. Late charges and fees for affected accounts will also be waived, and the bank is waiving charges for replacing credit and debit cards, passbooks, bankers’ cheques, and account statements damaged during the disaster.

For SMEs needing additional cash flow support, the bank is offering a Disaster Relief Facility of up to RM700,000 at preferential financing rates. Meanwhile, CIMB’s insurance partners, Berjaya Sompo Insurance Bhd and Takaful Ikhlas, have activated hotlines to expedite claims for property and vehicle damages.

The RM2.5 million aid package is focused on immediate relief and long-term recovery. Through its partnership with disaster-relief NGO Kembara Kitchen, CIMB has facilitated the production of ready-to-eat meals using retort machines funded by the bank. These meals, which can last up to two years without refrigeration, are being distributed to flood-affected areas, with 80,000 meal packs delivered during the current flood season, adding to over 240,000 packs previously distributed since 2021.

Group CEO Novan Amirudin said the bank’s commitment reflects its empathy for the communities it serves.

“We stand with Malaysians impacted by the floods and hope our efforts will alleviate the financial and emotional burdens of affected individuals and businesses. It is also a reminder of the need to address climate change and build resilience within our communities.”
