KUALA LUMPUR – Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd has confirmed that six districts in eastern Sabah experienced a blackout today.

The service disruption was not part of any scheduled maintenance work, the utility company indicated.

The affected districts were Sandakan, Lahad Datu, Kunak, Semporna, Beluran and Kinabatangan.

In a statement, the state electricity provider said it is working to restore power supply in the impacted areas.

“We would like to apologise for the inconvenience caused and we appreciate your patience and cooperation.

“Latest updates would be provided from time to time through Sabah Electricity’s official channels,” said the company.

Earlier this month, Sabah Electricity chairman Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau said the state is facing the grim prospect of a statewide blackout beginning in January if urgent financial assistance does not come through from the federal government.

With less than two months left, Tangau expressed deep concern over the lack of sufficient allocation for Sabah’s power subsidy in the latest national budget.  – November 9, 2024
