KUALA LUMPUR – A 39-year-old foreigner has been remanded for three days for allegedly beating a dog to death with an iron rod in Keningau, Sabah, recently.

Keningau police chief Yampil Garai said police received a report about a viral video of the incident yesterday and investigations revealed that it occurred at a workshop in Kg Patikang, Keningau on October 24.

Following the report, a team from the Keningau police criminal investigation department successfully apprehended the suspect at 10.30pm yesterday and seized the iron rod used in the attack.

“Police received a public complaint after seeing a video on Facebook, where a man was seen beating a dog with an iron rod to death.

“The suspect is now remanded for three days for further investigation,” he said in a statement today.

The case is being investigated under Section 428 of the Penal Code for cruelty to animals and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for the distribution of the video.

Recently, a one-minute video went viral on social media showing a man beating a dog to death with an iron rod at a workshop.

The suspect’s cruel actions were condemned by netizens, especially as the video ended with the sound of the suspect’s friends laughing.

Many said they were unable to watch the video which exhibited inhumane behaviour towards an animal.

“May the animal killer receive a fitting punishment, karma will come back to him.”

“Good…feel it.”

“Well done PDRM. I’m happy the perpetrator was finally caught.

“I saw a video of a man beating a dog to death, while the dog wasn’t even bothering him, just lying down nicely. My heart felt ripped apart. How can you be so cruel to an animal like that, you humans,” said some of the comments on social media. – November 6, 2024
