KUALA LUMPUR – Morocco has filed a suit at the High Court here against its citizen Mohammed Amine Ouradj El Hassani, known here as Mawla Amin, for tarnishing the kingdom’s image with his religious activities.
The Moroccan kingdom, which filed its statement of claim here on July 10, is claiming damages to be assessed by the court and a declaration that Mawla Amin had been wrongfully portraying himself as a descendant of the prophet.
“In 2022, Mawla Amin came to Malaysia as a religious cleric through a local madrasah.
“However, over time his background and teachings was questioned by several (Malaysian) state religious authorities due to his dubious lineage claims,” reads the statement of claim which was filed though Shah Alam-based law firm Zul Bakar Chambers.
Morocco’s statement of claim also states Mawla Amin had caused controversy for the kingdom after claiming he was a descendant of Prophet Muhammad and had established a movement to prepare followers for “the end of time”.
Mawla Amin is accused of telling Malaysians that he is the 38th descendant of the Prophet Muhammad besides calling himself the “Moroccan Cherif Idrissi” to highlight his supposed prophetic lineage, when the kingdom had never recognised him as such.
“In Morocco, members of the Cherif Idrissi family from the famed Idrisid dynasty of Morocco are highly respected due to their status.
“The Idrisid dynasty of Morocco are known as direct descendants of the prophet,” the court documents said.
The kingdom said Mawla Amin was originally a French citizen of Algerian descent and had only obtained Moroccan citizenship after marrying a local.
His actions in Malaysia, which include accusations of unlawfully collecting public funds and attempting to establish a religious group called “Kerajaan 9” in Melaka, have caused damage to the Moroccan government’s name, the statement of claim added.
“The defendant’s name as a Moroccan with his controversial news on his activities in Malaysia has been circulated globally.
“Hence, it has affected the image of the Kingdom of Morocco.”
This is not the first time the Kingdom of Morocco has gone through Malaysian courts to clear its name from Mawla Amin’s claims.
On August 28, the kingdom obtained a court order from the Kuala Lumpur High Court to serve court documents out of jurisdiction to Mawla Amin who is residing in Fes, Morocco.
Local media have reported that he is under surveillance by police and religious authorities here because of his deviant teachings.
Bahasa Malaysia newspapers reported that a 11ha plot of land in Melaka had been purchased to established his ‘Kerajaan 9’ commune.
A principal of a madrasah in Selangor who was accused of promoting Mawla Amin was also alleged to have collected funds for him in a bid to establish an “end of times” cult. – October 25, 2024
