New MDEC CEO not my brother nor cousin: Fahmi

Communications minister’s clarification came after Umno’s Isham Jalil questioned Anuar Fariz Fadzil if he had any familial ties to the minister who had the same last name

GEORGE TOWN – Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil has clarified that he has no familial ties with the newly appointed Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation chief executive officer Anuar Fariz Fadzil.

Fahmi said that while both of their last names appear to be similar, Anuar is neither his cousin nor his distant relative.

“I also have nothing to do with his appointment. Therefore, I hope that those who made this slander will repent. I hope that this (matter) will be a lesson for all of us to be wary of information (that we get online).

“Don’t be too quick to slander other people,” he told reporters at the sidelines of a Komuniti Madani event in Batu Uban here, yesterday.

Fahmi’s clarifications came after former Umno Supreme Council member Isham Jalil published a Facebook post on Anuar’s appointment, questioning if he was related to Fahmi.

Anuar, announced as the new CEO on Thursday, had also since denied having familial ties with the minister in a News Straits Times report.

Isham has since edited his Facebook post by adding a note stating that Anuar is not Fahmi’s brother. – October 6, 2024
