KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia’s Tiktok head of public policy, Anuar Fariz Fadzil, has been appointed as Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC)’s new chief executive officer.

MDEC chairman Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh announced this at the Malaysia Digital Content Festival 2024 held at the Connexion Exhibition Convention Centre today.

On Tuesday, Scoop reported that Anuar is set to take on the role, with the official announcement to come soon.

MDEC, which is under the Digital Ministry’s purview, has had a vacuum in its leadership following the departure of CEO Mahadhir Aziz on August 31 after three years.

Anuar, who was once the special officer to the then international trade and industry minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamad, also held positions as stakeholder head for Axiata and advisor on public sector and digital economy to the CEO of Celcom.

Anuar holds a master’s degree in Public Policy from John Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies in Washington, which he pursued during the Covid-19 pandemic. – October 3, 2024
