PETALING JAYA –  A total of RM4.4 million in compounds have been imposed against 12 companies related to GISB Holdings (GISBH) by the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry recently.

The compounds were issued following an investigation by the Companies Commission of Malaysia which found that all the companies did not comply with the requirement to submit their annual statements and financial statements, said minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali.

He also said that 201 companies could be potentially linked to the group, Bernama reported.

“Besides GISBH, there are 17 other companies using the GISB name in their SSM registration. Meanwhile, a review of data and websites related to GISB or ‘Ikhwan’ found that 201 businesses could be linked to the group.

“One of the company’s responsibilities every year is to submit their audited financial statements. SSM investigation found that these 12 companies did not comply with the responsibility of submitting their annual statement and financial statement,” he said at the 2024 TikTok Shop Seller Summit today.

He also added that the Domestic Trade Ministry is responsible for helping police in terms of legislation and non-compliance with related to its business networks.

GISBH-linked teacher gets 10 years prison, headmaster remanded

At the sessions court in Klang today, a religious teacher received a 10-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to four counts of ill-treating three boys by caning them and pressing their chests with his knees at two schools linked to GISBH.

Muhammad Barur Rahim Hisam, 23, pleaded guilty to all charges.

Judge Noridah Adam sentenced him to two years in prison each for the first and second charges and three years imprisonment each for the third and fourth charges. The sentences to be served consecutively, which totals up to 10 years, from the date of arrest, which was last September 11, Bernama reported.

The accused was also ordered to be placed on a good behaviour bond for five years with a surety of RM10,000, and if he fails to comply with the bond, to be jailed for six months.

Prosecution requested a heavy sentence as a lesson to the accused and the general public not to commit a similar offence.

“The actions of the accused are inhuman. The accused has committed an offence that has an element of violence…it is also necessary to take into account the accused’s relationship with the child.

“The accused is the caretaker of the premises at the dormitory where the victims attend school.

“As a result of the accused’s action, the victims are traumatised to continue their studies at any school. The prosecution also requests that the punishment imposed on the accused be served consecutively,” said deputy public prosecutor Datin Kalmizah Salleh.

On September 16, police began investigating a viral video showing a boy moaning in pain, believed to have been caused by a teacher pressing his chest and neck using his knee.

Meanwhile, in Kuala Krai, a headmaster of an integrated school has been remanded for five days starting today to assist with investigations related to GISBH under Section 8(2) of the Printing Presses and Publications Act 1984.

He was arrested at 11am yesterday near an eatery in Pasir Puteh after police raided Sekolah Rendah Integrasi Ikhwan where 34 prohibited books related to Al-Arqam founder Ashaari Muhammad were seized.

The recent crackdown on premises and individuals related to GISBH saw 572 children and teenagers rescued. – September 26, 2024
