KUALA LUMPUR – The Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) has confirmed the presence of a crocodile in a lake of a park in Section 7.

On X, MBSA cautioned visitors of Taman Tasik Seksyen 7 – a popular spot for jogging, picnics, family outings, among other recreational activities – of the wild animal, which was spotted by a member of the public who caught it on camera.

Following the person’s Facebook video, MBSA said it will take prompt action with the help of the Environmental Health Department and the Wildlife Department (Perhilitan) to address the seemingly stray crocodile. All departments involved have taken note of the case.

On Facebook, the city council updated that it had held a discussion with Selangor Perhilitan on the matter, in which they also visited the lake.

As a precaution, MBSA cordoned off the area around the lake and will monitor the situation from time to time. Additionally, Perhilitan will place signages warning people of the crocodile, and set up traps to capture the reptile.

Members of the public are asked to be cautious and avoid activities around the area if needed.

In 2019, Perhilitan confirmed the presence of a juvenile saltwater crocodile (buaya tembaga) in Tasik Shah Alam in Section 14, which was found in one of the pumps. The lake is also surrounded by a park and is located less than 5km from Taman Tasik Seksyen 7. – September 3, 2024
