ALOR STAR – Yan and Pendang districts as well as a part of Gurun in Kedah are hit by water disruptions following a temporary shut down of the Jenun Lama water treatment plant (WTP) due to pipe damage.
An estimated 15,000 accounts will be affected by supply disruption, said Syarikat Air Darul Aman Sdn Bhd (Sada).
According to the state water company, the entire Jenun town as well as 29 other localities in Pendang, 11 localities in Yan and three localities in Gurun are affected by the supply disruption.
Seven schools and Pendang Engineering Matriculation College are among the affected.
Sada’s corporate communications department, in an infographic announcement, said a pipe which pumps raw water has leaked due to “dredging work done by a third party”.
The water supply disruption, which began at noon today, is expected to last until all repairs and restoration works are completed.
“We regret all the inconveniences caused,” Sada said.
Kedah’s latest water woes follows Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor’s remarks earlier this month that was “leaving it to Allah” to bring rain to restore water levels in three dams in the state.
He has been criticised in the past for not being proactive in resolving Kedah’s water supply problems. – August 26, 2024
