KUALA LUMPUR – Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has handed over documents to the police to substantiate his claim of having sufficient support from MPs to form a government following the 15th general election.

The documents submitted today include a letter dated November 21, 2022 from the senior private secretary of the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Datuk Nizam Mohd Alin, which allegedly confirms the receipt of 115 statutory declarations (SDs) endorsing Muhyiddin as Prime Minister.

Muhyiddin also provided the 115 SDs themselves. The submission of the documents was revealed in a statement released to the media after Muhyiddin was questioned by the police at the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (Mida) office here today for about an hour.

Muhyiddin added that police were also provided with two letters dated November 20, 2022, from then-Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Azhar Azizan Harun, which contained the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s request for a prime ministerial candidate with the backing of at least 112 MPs to submit the relevant statutory declarations.

“With my explanation to the police and the documents I have handed over to them, it is hoped that their investigation will be conducted transparently and fairly based on the law.

“As a regular citizen, I shelter under the greatness and glory of the Malay rulers. My loyalty to the constitutional monarchy institution should not be questioned,” Muhyiddin added.

Reporters who were gathered at the Mida building were also provided a copy of the documents believed to have been submitted to police.

Around the time when Muhyiddin’s statement was being recorded by the police, several PN leaders were seen entering the building, including coalition secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin and Bersatu deputy president Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu.

Bersatu vice president Datuk Radzi Jidin, Selangor Bersatu chief Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, Gerakan president Datuk Dominic Lau and Malaysian Indian People’s Party president P. Punithan were also seen going into the building and leaving alongside Muhyiddin.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain previously said police will meet Muhyiddin here at 11am today regarding his recent speech during the Nenggiri by-election, in which he mentioned the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

Muhyiddin’s speech courted controversy after the public and political quarters accused him of touching on 3R (race, religion, and royalty) issues, causing police reports to be filed against him nationwide.

In his speech, Muhyiddin reportedly questioned the responsibilities and role of the former Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, as he expressed his grievances over not being appointed Prime Minister following the 2022 general election.

The speech also drew the ire of Tengku Mahkota Pahang Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah, who wanted the police to take decisive action against the Pagoh MP.

On Monday, Muhyiddin had defended his “factual” speech as one that had no intention of insulting the former king, adding that he believes his statement does not violate any law of the country. – August 21, 2024
