KUALA LUMPUR – A foreign national has been detained on allegations of murdering his wife and daughter, whose bodies were found in a drain behind a deserted building near Pekan Simpang Kuala yesterday.
According to Kota Setar police chief Siti Nor Salawati Saad, the authorities were alerted by the public at 5.04pm about the discovery of a woman’s and a girl’s bodies.
“The police discovered the bodies of two victims, a 10-year-old and a 34-year-old, fully clothed and lying close together in a small drain. Neither of them had identification documents. Both had neck injuries, and it is believed that they were foreigners.
“The bodies have been transported to the Forensic Department at Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital, Alor Setar, for an autopsy,” she said, in a statement.
A 34-year-old foreign national, identified as the husband and father of the victims, has been taken into custody, based on police intelligence.
At 9pm last night, the suspect was apprehended at Bukit Pinang Mosque in Alor Setar, according to Siti Nor Salawati.
“He is expected to be brought before the Alor Setar Court today for a remand order to assist in the ongoing investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code,” she added.
She also urged the public to refrain from speculating about the case, as such speculation could cause distress to the community.
“Anyone with information related to this case is encouraged to come forward to any nearby police station or contact the senior investigating officer of the Kota Setar Criminal Investigation Division, Faizul Izuan Harun, at 04-774 7222,” she added. – August 20, 2024
