KUALA LUMPUR – Police have opened an investigation into a former MP who is alleged to be involved in a sexual harassment case involving a woman at a prominent supermarket in Kota Damansara.
Petaling Jaya police chief Shahrulnizam Ja’afar said a report was received from the victim, a woman in her 20s, on August 6, claiming she was sexually harassed twice by a man while at the supermarket.
He also noted that police detected an 18-second video circulating on social media concerning the allegations yesterday at about 2pm.
“A thorough investigation is being conducted under Section 507 A and Section 509 of the Penal Code,” he said in a statement today.
According to Shahrulnizam, the investigation revealed that the accused works for a statutory body and holds the position of non-executive director.
“Police will record the man’s statement to assist with the investigation. Anyone with information regarding this case can contact the Petaling Jaya police headquarters operations room at 03-79662222,” he added. – August 19, 2024
