GEORGE TOWN – Jelutong MP R.S.N. Rayer has lodged a police report against Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin for allegedly questioning the authority of the former Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.
Rayer, who lodged the report at the Jalan Patani police station, here, claimed Muhyiddin had cast doubt on Sultan Abdullah’s authority during a ceramah in the recent Nenggiri by-election.
Rayer cited a video clip that is viral on TikTok as the basis for his police report, the second one lodged against the Bersatu president for similar reasons. The first report over the same matter was filed by the Pekan Umno’s Youth and Puteri wings in Pahang yesterday.
In the video clip, Muhyiddin, who is speaking in a ceramah event, said he had support of 115 MPs following the 15th general election in November 2022 and should have been sworn in as prime minister, but was not invited by Sultan Abdullah to do so.
According to a copy of Rayer’s police report sighted by Scoop, the DAP MP said that Muhyiddin’s speech was “seditious” and could incite public anger that can disrupt public order.
He also said that the alleged remarks also went against the decree made by current Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim, who has warned against speeches on 3R (race, religion and royalty) issues in politics.
In a press conference later, Rayer called for Muhyiddin to be investigated under the Sedition Act 1948.
“Before this, a charge was made (under the Sedition Act) against Kedah Menteri Besar (Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor), also for insulting the royal institution during an election campaign, where he was brought to the Shah Alam court.
‘’I am asking that the same action be taken against Muhyiddin under the same act as well,” said Rayer.
Yesterday, Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail called on the authorities to take action against Muhyiddin for his remarks towards the former Agong.
Wan Rosdy said Muhyiddin’s remarks were “disrespectful” and the latter, as a former prime minister, should have known better than to drag the monarchy into his political agenda. – August 18, 2024
