KUALA LUMPUR – An elderly couple and their 11-year-old granddaughter tragically lost their lives in a house fire at Kg Paya Redan in Pagoh.

Muar police chief Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz said a witness informed police that the incident occurred at approximately 1.30am on Friday.

“The victims have been identified as Mohamed Nor Mohamed Yassin, 82, Ara Abdul Hamid, 76, and Noradriana Nor Hisyam, 11,” he added.

The elderly couple was declared dead at the scene, while Noradriana succumbed to her injuries during treatment at Sultanah Fatimah Specialist Hospital, Raiz said.

He said a 14-year-old teenager, Norazima Mohd Radhi, sustained a head injury and is currently receiving treatment at the same hospital.

“By the time the fire was fully extinguished at 4.15am, approximately 85% of the partially wooden house had been destroyed,” he said.

Pagoh Fire and Rescue Department operations commander Suhairulair Saris said the couple’s burnt remains were discovered at 2.40am, and the injured children received first aid before being transported to the hospital.

He added that the operation involved 21 personnel from the Pagoh and Muar stations. – August 9, 2024
