KUALA LUMPUR – Actor and singer Rafidah Ibrahim’s views on the Kg Sg Baru issue are contradictory and she does not represent the people there, says Federal Territories Amanah chief Khalid Abdul Samad.

In response to her recent videos calling for a reversal of the development plans, Khalid said that she was never a volunteer or part of the committee involved in negotiating the terms for the Kg Sg Baru land sale.

“Rafidah does not represent, nor has she volunteered as a committee member.

“Her stance is contradictory, and the agreement is that the project will continue, with most of those involved having moved to Kerinchi,” he said during a press conference today.

In the controversial TikTok videos, Rafidah urged all involved parties, including those who had signed agreements, to return to their original homes.

She labelled those who agreed to the redevelopment and sold their lands as traitors.

“She is taking a different position, rejecting this redevelopment plan and calling for everyone involved to come back, including those who have already signed.

“The collective agreement within the committee to proceed with the redevelopment project and the confusion caused by Rafidah needs to be clarified. We cannot accept her call for people to breach agreements that have been signed. It goes against Islamic teachings.

“I do not understand how she can claim to make such a call in the name of Islam while asking people to violate what has been agreed upon. We must adhere to our agreements,” he added.

Khalid reiterated the commitment to proceed with the project, highlighting the significant investments and relocations already undertaken.

“This project will continue. Many have moved to Kerinchi, and the developer has incurred high costs. Rafidah Ibrahim’s stance does not represent our position,” he added.

Kg Sg Baru, located near the Saloma Link Bridge and the Kg Baru LRT station, consists of 98 leasehold terrace houses and 264 flat units.

While a portion of residents accepted the developer’s offer, many continue to oppose the redevelopment plans.

On May 23, Scoop reported that the Kg Sg Baru redevelopment saga might be edging closer to a conclusion as Ritzy Gloss intends to push forward with demolition plans in the locality. – July 29, 2024
