GEORGE TOWN ā€“ Only five elevators are currently operational at the Komtar Tower, which houses the Penang governmentā€™s offices, following a water tank overflow incident.

This has caused flooding on the ground floor and led to the suspension of operations for 12 elevator units.

Speaking to Scoop, PDC Setia Urus Sdn Bhd (PDCSU) chief operations officer Loi Kai Horng said that four low-zone lifts were unaffected by the overflow incident, while a mid-zone lift resumed operation at 9.30am.

PDCSU is the company that manages the tower.

He added that PDCSU is working on getting one or two out of eight high-zone lifts operational again by today, while the remaining units will be fixed over the weekend.

Loi said that the lift services were suspended this morning due to a water tank leakage on the 27th floor, which occurred at around 3.15am.

ā€œInvestigations will be carried out on whether sensor failure caused the tank overflow,ā€ he added.

The high-zone lifts connect to the offices of Penang’s deputy chief ministers, several executive councillors, and various government agencies.

Meanwhile, the low-zone lifts provide access to the Penang Chief Minister’s Office and the offices of several federal and state government departments and agencies.

Loi also said that PDCSU workers are currently drying the lift floors and conducting electrical checks on the lift units before performing test runs. ā€“ July 26, 2024
