18-year-old dies of heart attack while waiting to watch KDA FC v JDT match

Youth was at Darul Aman Stadium with his younger brother where collapsed while sitting at the bleachers before game started

KUALA LUMPUR – A teenager collapsed and died of a heart attack at Darul Aman Stadium in Alor Star, Kedah during a football match last night.

Kota Setar police chief Siti Nor Salawati Saad said that the 18-year-old male victim was at the stadium with his younger brother to watch a football match between KDA FC and JDT FC.

She added that the teen collapsed and lost consciousness at the stadium’s spectator seat, where he was sitting at about 7pm, before the match started.

“People who witnessed the incident immediately contacted the Civil Defence Force personnel on duty at the stadium to take the teen to Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital (HSB) in Alor Star for treatment.

“Upon arrival at the emergency department, the medical officer confirmed that the teenager had died,” she said.

She also added that checks and interviews with the next of kin revealed that the teenager had suffered from heart disease since childhood.

“The HSB medical team has also confirmed that the cause of death was ‘complex cyanotic heart disease,’ which is related to heart disease,” she said in a statement.

She confirmed that the report regarding the death of the teenager was received at 8.18pm.

The investigation found no criminal element in this incident.

The death is classified as sudden death. – July 20, 2024
