KUALA LUMPUR – Grab Malaysia has launched GrabScholar in collaboration with Yayasan Tunku Abdul Rahman (YTAR) and GoBarakah as an initiative to democratise education by offering scholarships and financial assistance to more than 300 Malaysian students.
Grab Malaysia’s managing director Adelene Foo said in a statement today that GrabScholar’s introduction further strengthens the company’s commitment to empower all citizens through education, regardless of background.
“Education is a crucial catalyst for intergenerational mobility and societal transformation.
“Through GrabScholar, we aim to assist those in need, providing aid and offering opportunities to enhance socioeconomic status.
“This initiative goes beyond mere financial assistance, it is also an investment in the future of our country,” she said.
She stated that through a strategic partnership with YTAR, GrabScholar will provide university scholarships for students pursuing degrees, particularly in the fields of sustainability, business, as well as science, technology, engineering and mathematics education at all public universities across Malaysia.
The scholarship covers full tuition fees, allowances, industrial training opportunities, and a unique two-year leadership development programme.
Meanwhile, YTAR chief executive officer Ida Thien said in the same statement that the collaboration enables the institution to empower more high-potential and deserving youths with skills, resources, and resilience.
Ida said it is to shape a better future for themselves, their community, and the nation.
At the same time, in line with GoBarakah, GrabScholar will provide financial assistance to 300 primary and secondary school students across Malaysia, thereby reducing the financial burden on families for school expenses.
GoBarakah co-founder Azrin Ajib said the bursary programme enables them to extend their reach and help more families reduce the financial burden of education.
“Together with Grab, we are committed to making a positive impact on the lives of students and their families across Malaysia,” he said.
The closing date for applications for the GrabScholar University Scholarships is July 22, while applications for school aid will be open until July 31.
