KUALA LUMPUR – A second suspect was arrested yesterday in connection with the ongoing investigation into the suicide of the late social influencer A. Rajeswary.
Sentul district police chief Ahmad Sukarno Mohd Zahari said the 44-year-old lorry driver was arrested around 6.30pm.
He said the man is remanded for four days, which will end on July 14.
According to him, the case is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code, Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955.
On Monday, a 35-year-old woman was arrested at a golf club in Rawang over alleged threats made against 29-year-old Rajeswary (known as Esha) on TikTok. She was remanded until July 10 under similar sections.
Subsequent checks by police revealed that the videos, which were said to have been uploaded between June 30 and July 1, had been deleted by the suspect.
Meanwhile, Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil visited the family of a TikTok influencer, believed to be a victim of cyberbullying, in Gombak Setia.
Her body was found at her home at about 11am on Friday.
Following this, Fahmi said that he will hold a meeting with Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo and Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said to discuss matters related to cyberbullying.
Prior to her death on July 5, Rajeswary endured online harassment for more than a month, according to one of the police reports she lodged.
In a report filed with the Dang Wangi district police headquarters, she complained of a TikTok account that not only threatened her safety but allegedly made defamatory statements against her.
When contacted, Dang Wangi police chief Noor Dellhan Yahaya told Scoop that his station received a report lodged by Rajeswary on July 4 over the June 30 incident and referred it to the Sentul police station. – July 11, 2024
