KUALA LUMPUR – Following Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) failure to wrest Sg Bakap in the by-election, former law minister Datuk Zaid Ibrahim says it is now up to the people to choose between Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and the incarcerated Datuk Seri Najib Razak to be their leader.
He said the explicit rejection of the Madani government by Sg Bakap voters could not have been more evident.
“PKR and the Madani government are good at analysing the problems of the country but clueless about how to fix them.
“That’s why it was a massive mistake for Malaysians (including yours truly) to abandon caution when rejecting the old kleptocracy Barisan Nasional (BN) set of leadership for a new one,” he said in a social media post today.
In the by-election on Saturday, Perikatan Nasional (PN) retained the state seat in Penang.
PN’s Abidin Ismail won 14,489 votes, defeating PH candidate Joohari Ariffin, who gained 10,222 votes.
Abidin won by 4,267 votes, which is more than the margin in the state election in August.
Zaid also went on to claim that the current predicament stemmed from the mistreatment of Najib, which led to the downfall of the BN-led government in 2018.
“Once branded as a national disgrace, Najib was, in reality, a victim of a CIA (the US intelligence agency)-led regime change.
“Our perspectives change only when we accept the reality that 1Malaysia Development Bhd was a CIA project made easier by Najib’s own gullibility,” he added.
The solution to overcome the nation’s current woes is to bring Najib back, Zaid said, adding that his return would signal the reintroduction of the goods and services tax, providing the Treasury with an additional RM12 billion annually.
This would negate the need for minor adjustments like reducing egg prices by three sen and increasing diesel to RM3.50, he added.
“The sale of the country’s business and assets to US Wall Street will cease. The need to support the ailing hegemony of the US will no longer be required.
“Government departments will operate much more efficiently, and education will not require a new blueprint. Najib knows how to implement the present one, which he crafted in 2012. MA63 (the Malaysia Agreement 1963) will be sorted out,” he claimed.
So, do you want Anwar or Najib? Zaid asks.
He also called on the people to take to the streets to peacefully demand the release of Najib, just as they did for Anwar.
“The label of ‘the great kleptocrat’ should now be replaced with ‘the great redeemer’.” – July 8, 2024
