Noh using Najib’s name as reason to join Bersatu is ‘low-class’, says Puad

Umno Supreme Council member says former partymate jumped because he wanted to contest for Tanjung Karang seat

KUALA LUMPUR – Datuk Puad Zarkashi has criticised Tan Sri Nor Omar for justifying his decision to join Bersatu by citing disappointment with the treatment of Datuk Seri Najib Razak as “low-class”.

The Umno Supreme Council member claimed that Noh’s move was driven by his desire to contest the Tanjung Karang parliamentary seat, which he believed would soon be vacated.

The former Selangor Umno chief is desperate, to the point of tarnishing Najib’s name, to join Bersatu, he said.

“Noh reasoned that he was disappointed with the court’s decision to dismiss Najib’s application for review. He is willing to use Najib’s name to jump to Bersatu. Low-class excuse.

“Noh is not a ‘die-hard’ fan of Najib. What can he do for Najib to join Bersatu?” he asked in a statement.

He added that Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Bersatu are the ones insistent on Najib’s imprisonment, arguing that a delayed verdict would ultimately work in their favor.

Yesterday, Noh announced that he has joined Bersatu, citing that his decision was made out of disappointment that the Kuala Lumpur High Court rejected Najib’s application to initiate a judicial review over a purported addendum order by the former Agong for him to serve the remainder of his jail term under house arrest.

Noh said he was sad over the fate of the former prime minister, who must serve the remaining six years of his sentence in prison.

“I applied to join Bersatu online yesterday by filling out a form. No one knew,” he was reported as saying.

Noh was expelled from Umno in January 2023, after the former Tanjong Karang MP challenged Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to sack him when his membership was initially suspended for six years. – July 4, 2024
