KUALA LUMPUR – Seven individuals, including Latin Americans, have been arrested on suspicion of ransacking a Bukit Damansara terrace house and stealing RM7 million in luxury goods and cash.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa said the eighth suspect, who is also Latin American, is in Thailand and Malaysian authorities are in the process of bringing him back here for further action.

The robbery on May 31 involved RM20,000 cash, 30 luxury watches and jewellery worth millions of ringgit.

“The victim went out for dinner and came home to a ransacked house, which is in a gated residential area.

“During investigations, we have obtained CCTV footage that belongs to a neighbour.

“Footage showed the suspects had used a rented Perodua Myvi with a fake plate number as a get-away car.

“We found that the crime was committed smoothly, which means it is not their first time,” he said in a press conference here today.

Rusdi added that the seven suspects, aged 30 to 40, were arrested on June 6, 9 and 11.

“Among them are five foreigners and two local Malay women – one of them being the girlfriend to one of the male suspects, while another one is a jeweller’s buyer.

“We tracked the eighth suspect on June 14, and a warrant of arrest has been issued against him.”

Of the seven arrested, Rusdi said three would be charged under Section 457 of the Penal Code for housebreaking, one with Section 411 of the Code for disposing evidence, and one would be charged under Section 6(1) of the Immigration Act 1959 for staying in the country without valid documents.

Police have recovered RM4,450 cash, 29 luxury watches valued at RM1.5 million and jewellery worth RM2.5 million.

Rusdi also said as of June 26, there were 427 cases of housebreaking recorded in Kuala Lumpur. – June 27, 2024
